Master Scholarships at K.U. Leuven, Belgium

Motivated and talented international students, interested in participating in an international master programme of the Faculty of Science of the K.U.Leuven are invited to apply for a scholarship.

Master Programs eligible for scholarship:

Master of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Master of Biology, Master of Molecular and Cellular Biophysics, Master of Chemistry, Master of Physics, Master of Geology, Master of Geography, Master of Mathematics and the Master of Statistics.

The amount of the scholarship can be up to 8.000 Euro for 1 year. The Board of the Science@Leuven Fund will decide exactly how much a scholarship will be. The scholarship will always cover the tuition fee for 1 year, the insurance and a basic health insurance coverage. The amount awarded for living expenses can vary.

Most master programmes of the Faculty of Science are 2-year programmes. A scholarship for the second master year will be only be continued for students having had outstanding results the first master year.

Requirements

-the applicants have not studied or worked at the University of Leuven before,

-the applicants have a bachelor degree from a foreign university that gives them access to the master programme they are applying for,

-the applicants can prove having had excellent study results during their former training,

-the applicants show strong motivation to follow a master programme at the Faculty of Science of the K.U.Leuven

-the applicants are willing to act as an ambassador for the programme.

Scholarships for Master in International and Development Economics in Belgium

A one year Advanced Master in International and Development Economics University of Namur (FUNDP) and University of Louvain (UCL) Belgium

Each year, the program gathers students from all over the world to train them in international and development economics and help them become actors of economic development in the context of an integrated world economy.

A basic training in economics (at least 4 years) is required to follow the program.

Courses are structured around three themes:
Macroeconomic management
International economic relations
Economic development, with emphasis on poverty reduction and institutional issues

Teaching staff includes well-known academic researchers with field experience in Asia, Africa

Around 15 scholarships per year for students from developing countries offered by:
CUD (Commission Universitaire pour le développement – Belgian Government)
CTB (Coopération Technique Belge)
CGRI (Commissariat Général aux Relations Internationales)

PhD position in Linguistics at Ghent University, Belgium

Applications are invited for a 4-year half-time Ph.D. position in the field ofvisual word recognition and/or reading acquisition at the German Department atGhent University (salary 28.400 Euro per year).

The successful candidate will work in the project "Interactions of phonology andorthography in German visual word recognition" funded by the Flemish FWO. In this project, we are investigating the interaction of phonology and orthographyin beginning readers of German and how this interaction develops over time asreading proficiency grows. The relevant data will be collected in Germany(Cologne, Bonn, and Bielefeld).The successful candidate will plan and conduct psycholinguistic experiments(reaction-time, eye-tracking) and analyse data. S/he will write a Ph.D. thesison a topic related to this research at Ghent University.

Profile of the candidate:
- Master's or equivalent degree in linguistics (i.e. e.g. General Linguistics,German Linguistics, Psycholinguistics, or Clinical Linguistics),
- Background in experimental psycholinguistics and statistical data analysis,
- Good knowledge in at least one of the following areas: phonology, readingacquisition, visual word recognition,
- Good command of English and German.

The grant starts during spring 2009. Application letters including a shortstatement of interest, a full CV, a copy of the required diploma, and the namesof two academic referees should be sent by 5 February 2009.

PhD position in Typology at University of Antwerp, Belgium

The project has a vacancy for two predocs. The project will run for four years,starting at a negotiable date before July 1 2009. The candidates are expected tocomplete a Ph.D. thesis by the end of the four year project.The successful applicant should have a Master's degree in Linguistics or a relatedfield, excellent analytic skills, writing and presentation skills in English,and a good knowledge of other languages. (S)he need to show an interest in functionaltypology and is willing to work as part of a team. Research experience andpublications are a plus.
