PhD and Master Scholarships at University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD)

University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) is offering Graduate Research Scholarship (GRS) from the Academic year 2010 to facilitate and promote Research Degrees. The scholarship scheme is offered to the citizens / applicants of ASEAN, Commonwealth, OIC Member countries.

To facilitate research degree in order to develop the University (UBD) into a research intensive university and also to expand and enhance the quality of graduate programmes and graduates.

Some of the key points of Eligibility are mentioned below:

* The candidates below 40 years of age at the time of commencement of the academic session.
* The applicant must have outstanding academic record throughout his academic career.
* The Applicant should submit Research Proposal with his/her application. Research Proposal should be as per the requirement of the UBD, mentioned on the UBD website above.
* The applicant must have completed 16 years Bachelors / or equivalent Degree for application in Master’s Program and PhD Program.
* The candidates must enroll in UBD in Masters (by Research) or Masters (by Coursework) or PhD (by Research) as a FULL TIME student.
* Candidates are required to have EITHER at least a credit 6 in English Language at GCE ‘O’ Level Examination or a grade ‘C’ in IGCSE English (as a Second Language) OR an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL minimum overall score of at least 550 (PBT) or 80 (iBT)

Programmes Offered:
· 2 years Master (By Research and Coursework)
· 3 years PhD (By Research)

There are two intakes per academic year – One in Semester-I (August) and the other in Semester-II (January). The application deadlines are mentioned on the UBD’s websites mentioned below. Applications received after the deadlines will be considered for the next relevant intake:

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) The CSFP is aimed at Commonwealth citizens who can make a significant contribution to their home country after studying in the UK.CSFP Scholarships are usually for between one and three years. They cover the cost of travel to and from the UK, tuition fees and living expenses. In some cases an allowance is paid to help with the cost of maintaining your spouse and family in the UK. 
Professional Fellowship awards are typically for three months. They provide opportunities for people working in developing Commonwealth countries to spend a short period of professional updating in the UK. Academic Staff Fellowships offer opportunities for a six-month period of postdoctoral research. 
CSFP

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship scheme assists students from developing Commonwealth countries who would benefit from higher education in the UK. If you are unable to study in UK for financial reasons and are outside the scope of other British government support schemes, you may be eligible.Awards are for taught masters courses only. Subjects must be related to the economic, social and technological development of the student’s home country. Different dates for different universities.

Education UK - postgraduate scholarships

Scholarships for MSc in International Planning and Development at Cardiff University

The MSc International Planning and Development, Cardiff University, is offering one award for a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship, starting in September 2009. Candidates must be nationals of a Commonwealth developing country, should have a first class or high upper second degree, and professional experience of at least one year. A standard in English language of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent will be required from students whose first language is not English. Preference will be given to candidates from lower income countries.

In addition to the normal application requirements,

- Candidates must certify in writing that:

a. they are nationals of a Commonwealth developing country, and not at present living or studying in a developed country;

b. have not undertaken studies lasting one year or more in a developed country;

c. are not at present employed by a national Government department or parastatal organisation;

d. are themselves, or through their families, unable to pay to study in the United Kingdom;

e. will return to their home country as soon as their awards ends.

- Candidates will asked to provide a statement supported either by their Head of Department (if in academic study) or Employer (if in employment) to say that they would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the UK.
