MEXT scholarships awarded to Pakistani students

ISLAMABAD—The Government of Japan has awarded MEXT research scholarships for the year 2009 to 11 postgraduate Pakistani students aiming to provide them an opportunity to pursue higher studies in their respective fields of study in Japanese Universities. This fully funded scholarships program is designed to contribute to the long-term development needs of Pakistan for promoting good governance, economic growth and human development, said a press release issued here Friday.

The scholarship grantees have been selected by the Embassy of Japan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) in collaboration with the MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP).

Chihiro Atsumi, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, hosted a reception here in honor of the scholarship grantees. The alumni of the scholarship programme were also invited to exchange views and share their knowledge with the fresh scholarship grantees. Addressing on the occasion, the Japanese Ambassador asked the students to prepare for the changes they would encounter in Japan.

He also expressed the hope that the students would come back to Pakistan and work towards the betterment of Pakistan-Japan relations with the knowledge and expertise which they would have obtained in Japan. Over 100 MEXT research scholarship students have successfully returned to Pakistan after obtaining their PhD /Masters degrees in Japan.

They are actively working in various fields, making a significant contribution to the Japan-Pakistan relationship by different means.

MEXT Scholarship Candidates for Future Leadership Program 2009 in the Fields of Global Information and Telecommunication Studies, Info-communication Industry and Info-communication Policy

The above named program offered by the Graduate School of Global Information and Telecommunication Studies (GITS), Waseda University, has been selected for one of the International Priority Graduate Programs (PGP) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan, since it is recognized as internationally attractive and competitive program.

As a privilege of being selected for PGP, GITS has been given priority for allocation of international students sponsored by MEXT. Those interested in studying in the program with MEXT Scholarship are cordially invited to apply. Overview of the program and application guide are given below.
