PhD scholarship in English and Computational Linguistics at University of Memphis

The Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS) at the University of Memphis invitesapplications from outstanding graduate students with an interest in dialoguesystems, computational semantics, and knowledge representation. Students with a background in computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, cognitivescience and cognitive psychology are encouraged to apply. In addition to coursework, students will work part-time on innovative research projects, for whichthey receive a tuition waver and stipend (minimum of $1000/month) .

Students willbe trained to present at international conferences and publish in academic journals.The Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS) at the University of Memphis is aninterdisciplinary center that incorporates the fields of computer science,cognitive science, psychology, computational linguistics, philosophy,engineering, and physics. The students and faculty are working on a number ofFederal grants that involve the development and testing of intelligent tutoringsystems with natural language and dialogue facilities, of conversational agentswith speech generation, facial expressions, and gestures, and of other computersystems that require natural language processing.
