Scholarship scheme for policemen’s children to be launched

Free higher education for cops’ children: IGP

INSPECTOR General of Police Shaukat Javed has said the Punjab government will bear all education expenditures of children of police officers/officials.

Chairing a meeting at Camp Office on Sunday, the IGP said scholarship scheme would be effective from January 1, 2009. He said children of police officials were entitled to get the full scholarship if they were admitted in renowned institutions, duly recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), like the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore School of Economics, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering and Technology, Quaid-i-Azam University, National University of Science and Technology (NUST), COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Government College University, Lahore, Lahore College for Women University and Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore. The IGP said the government would also bear half of the hostel charges of such students.

He said financial assistance to the widows of police officials had been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000. He said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif attached high priority to the welfare of police officials. He said that now the police officers and officials should perform their duties with a commitment as the government was taking concrete steps for their welfare. Welfare and Finance Addl IG Aftab Sultan was also present there.
