The IMPRS-SurMat represents a unique cooperative effort involving the Max Planck Institute for Iron Research (MPIE) in Duesseldorf, the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research in Muelheim, and the Ruhr University (RUB) in Bochum. In addition, three renowned Chinese research institutions closely cooperate with SurMat.

The IMPRS-SurMat covers topics ranging from fundamental scientific issues to engineering applications. This includes topics such as material stability (corrosion and interfacial adhesion), local reactivities on heterogeneous surfaces (corrosion and heterogeneous catalysis), the sophisticated tailoring of surfaces by thin film and nano-structuring techniques, and computational material design and atomistic modelling on interfaces.

The laboratories within the IMPRS-SurMat provide the most modern surface and interface analytical techniques and surface technologies. For theoretical studies high performance computational facilities and cutting edge computational tools are available.

Students holding either an excellent Master’s degree or a “Diplom” in Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Geo-Science or related subjects can apply for admission.

Scholarship Worth

Recipients of the Scholarship will be offered the following benefits only for their first year of studies at Bocconi:

Eligibility

Students will be considered eligible for the scholarship under the following conditions:

* Must be of Non-Italian citizenship and residence;

Master Scholarships in Austria

Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria is granting several grants for graduates and post-graduates.

10 months (one-time extension for a maximum of another 10 months is possible in case of a successful study progress)

Benefits:

a) If necessary, the OeAD (Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research) will effect an accident and health insurance.

b) The OeAD provides scholarship holders with accommodation (student dormitory or apartment). Monthly costs: € 220 to € 470 (depending on the level of comfort requested by the scholarship holder). The scholarship holder has to pay an administrative fee of € 18.— per month to the OeAD for the provision of accommodation. The costs for insurance and accommodation have to be covered by the scholarship holder from the scholarship.

Applicants for a scholarship coming from countries which are neither members of the EU nor members of EFTA, EEA or OECD can be granted a travel allowance of up to max. € 500.-- in addition to the scholarship.

Netherland's Huygens Scholarship Programme

The prestigious Huygens Scholarship Programme is open to excellent students from all countries. It is aimed at talented students who want to come to the Netherlands in the final phase of their bachelor’s studies or during their master’s studies.

The Huygens Scholarship Programme is highly competitive. To illustrate this: for the 2011 scholarship round it is expected that out of approximately 1,700 applications only 150 candidates will be awarded a scholarship.

Eligibility requirements

-If you want to take part in the Huygens Scholarship Programme, you must meet the following requirements:

-You are an excellent student: you have obtained excellent results in all your previous studies and you are at least in the top 5% of students in your study or research programme.

Please show this in your application file by including, for example, grade lists or reference letters. In case of equivalent qualification preference will be given to applications which show that you are among the top 5%.

-The Dutch study programme should be registered in CROHO, the Central Register of Higher Education Programmes. You can find this information in the Dutch nomination letter provided by the Dutch host institution.

-You should be in the final phase of your bachelor’s studies, or studying towards a master’s degree in the Netherlands, and your study must be used to earn a degree at the Dutch institution.

-Scholarships are only awarded for studies lasting at least 6 months, but no longer than 24 months. In case of equivalent qualification preference will be given to applications for 12 to 24 months.

-Your studies or research in the Netherlands must constitute a deepening and broadening of your previous studies.

-If you are already a graduate, you must have graduated less than one year ago.

-It is possible to do research or practical training, but it must form part of your studies (a programme on the CROHO list), i.e. you must receive study credits for it. In case of equivalent qualification preference will be given to applications for study programmes.

-At the start of the academic year (1 September) in which you study in the Netherlands, you must be no older than 35 years of age. In case of equivalent qualification preference will be given to a younger candidate.

-You must have already attended a programme of education (e.g. high school or above) in a country outside the Netherlands.

Application procedure

When you apply for admission to a programme in the Netherlands, you should indicate that your study performance is excellent and that you wish to be nominated for the prestigious Huygens Scholarship Programme by the Dutch institution you would like to study at.

Closing date

The complete application, both the digital application form and application documents on paper, must be received by Nuffic before 1 February. Applications which have not been submitted both digitally and on paper or which are incomplete will not be accepted.

Make sure you send your complete application to Nuffic well before the abovementioned deadline. Please note that your application must be sent to Nuffic by post or by courier.

Finally, bear in mind that Nuffic is closed on Saturday 29 January on and Sunday 30 January. On these days no post will be delivered.

Donation of Scholarship by McDonald's

Year 2010 ended on a positive note for Eucon International School as they received a donation from McDonald's Saipan.

The fast food restaurant's owner and president Joe Ayuyu handed on Friday a check worth $2,000 to school representatives Friday morning.

In an interview, Ayuyu told Saipan Tribune that the donation is part of McDonald's efforts to give back to the community.

“From time to time, we give donations to different schools on island to help them with what we can. This is the first time that we gave a donation to Eucon International School,” he said.

Ayuyu said Eucon International School has done a great job in educating some 250 international students currently enrolled at the school.

“The kids there are getting a good education and I'm happy to help them out. I know they will put it to good use,” he said.

Ayuyu added that the donation is a great way to start the new year for the school.

“On behalf of our school, we would like to thank the management of McDonald's for their support to our school,” said pastor Pete Miral of Eucon International School.

According to Miral, the donation will be added to their scholarship program fund for school year 2010-2011.

“We're offering different types of scholarship to all deserving students as our way of showing our gratitude to all businesses that make a contribution to the school,” he said.

Miral said their non-income based scholarship program is open to all students from first to 12th grade who meet their minimum grade requirements.

A+ students can avail of the 50 percent scholarship, A students can apply for the 40 percent scholarship, while A- students has the 30 percent scholarship option.

At present, Eucon International School has 10 students in their scholarship program.

“We hope we will continue to support one another in promoting education in the community,” Miral added.

Undergraduate scholarship program to Hong Kong in Lingnan University 2011. Overseas Student Scholarships of HK$120,000 (i.e. about US$15,385) each per academic year will be awarded to successful applicants, covering tuition fee, hostel and other academic and living expenses.

Each scholarship is offered on an annual renewable basis and is tenable for a period of up to 3 years, subject to continued outstanding academic performance.
